The planned resignations of nearly 13,000 health and social care workers (including for example nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, practical children`s nurse, medical laboratory technicians, ambulance staff ) starts at November 19, if there is not going to be any result of the negotiation before the date. The Union Of Health and Social Care Professionals (called Tehy) is pressing for 24 percent raise to salaries. Beside the salary, it is also the matter of nursing recognition and health care in future in Finland. At first phase this mass resignation is going to happen in the university hospitals and some central hospitals. Most of those 13 000 nurses who are going to resign by 19th of November are working in acute care settings like intensive care units, operating rooms and emergency units.
